Get started with the garden
Spring is finally here and many people have already started working in their gardens, but for those of you who haven’t, here are some tips on what needs doing and what tools you need for it.
There is a lot to do in the garden, but perhaps the most basic is to check the lawn and repair patches that aren’t looking so good. Remove moss and aerate with a vertical cutter, sow new grass where it’s needed and rake away any debris.
When the grass is long enough it’s time to mow it. The most common tool is still the lawn mower and the hand propelled mower, but the robot lawn mower is becoming increasingly more common. For bigger lawns a ride-on lawn mower is recommended.
Don’t forget to do some dandelion weeding before they start to spread seeds around. You’ll do this easiest with a dandelion digger. Make sure you to get deep into the lawn in order to get as much of the roots as possible.

If you have roses in the garden, these should be pruned, preferably with a really sharp bypass secateur. Take the opportunity to cut away all dead leaves and branches from your ornamental shrubs. If it’s difficult to reach these with pruning shears, you can use a lopper for a longer range.
Also, make sure to weed the flowerbeds both to clean up and to get rid of dead leaves that have piled up during the autumn and winter. When the flowerbeds look nice, you can add compost or composed cow manure. Also, be sure to water thoroughly.
Perhaps it’s now warm enough to bring out the garden furniture. If you’ve got a porch with a wooden deck, it’s a good idea to clean and oil the porch before placing any furniture. If you forget it’s not the end of the world, it’ll still survive. But why wait if you’ve got the time?
